Shower Enclosures in Irving

No More Warped Plastic, Leaking Doors or Moldy Walls

The plastic shower door most homes were built with has a predictable life. It warps. The seals harden and stop sealing. Water seeps out at the bottom every time somebody showers, and it goes into the floor and the wall behind. That is where the moldy walls come from — not from the shower itself but from years of small leaks nobody noticed. Real glass does not warp, and a properly fitted enclosure seals where a tired plastic unit has given up.

The other reason people switch is that a glass enclosure is designed rather than selected. We work through colors, styles and designs to match your bathroom's theme, which is not something a stock plastic unit offers. That matters more in Irving than you might think, because the housing runs from 1950s Heritage District bathrooms through to newer Las Colinas builds — what suits one would look wrong in the other.

Every enclosure we install is tempered safety glass, permanently marked. That is not preference; code designates shower and bath glazing a hazardous location requiring tempered glass. The installation itself involves measuring, cutting and fitting new frames around your existing tub or shower enclosure with new tempered panels — and the measuring is where a good installation is won or lost, because bathroom walls are rarely as plumb as they look.

Specifications

Shower Glass Options and What They Suit

A practical guide for Irving homeowners and remodelers choosing an enclosure.

OptionWhere It Makes Sense
3/8″ tempered framelessThe standard frameless thickness. Rigid enough for most residential door and panel spans, and the usual specification for a walk-in shower.
1/2″ tempered framelessWide door spans, tall full-height panels and steam enclosures where extra rigidity matters. Heavier, and hardware must be rated for it.
Framed enclosureTub surrounds and secondary bathrooms, and any opening where a reliable seal and easy maintenance matter more than a minimal appearance.
Semi-framelessOlder Irving bathrooms where walls have moved and framing on the perimeter absorbs the error a frameless panel would expose.
Clear glassShows tile work off and makes a small bathroom read larger. Shows water spots and needs the most upkeep.
Frosted & obscure glassPrivacy for shared, guest and children's bathrooms, and much more forgiving about water spotting than clear glass.
Low-iron (ultra-clear) glassRemoves the faint green cast standard glass shows at exposed edges. Worth it against white and pale tile.
Protective coatingA factory-applied treatment resisting mineral deposits — worth considering given how hard North Texas water is.

Called late night after my front door to my business was broken. They were out to me within 90 minutes to board the door. Had my door as good as new within a week with replacement glass. Good people that do good business. Highly recommend!

I am a contractor, and I work with this glass shop on a regular basis because I have a lot of clients who want to install custom shower doors. They are the ones that I use for these orders, and they are always on point. I really like the way they do business.

Common Questions

Irving Shower Door Questions

What Irving homeowners and remodelers ask before committing to an enclosure.

My plastic shower door leaks. Will glass actually fix that?

Yes, and the reason is that plastic doors fail in a specific way glass does not. Plastic warps over time, so the panel stops sitting true in its frame, and the seals harden and lose contact. Once that happens water escapes at the bottom every time somebody showers, and it goes into the floor and wall. Real glass will not warp or distort, so a properly fitted enclosure keeps sealing. That is also why people end up with moldy walls — years of small leaks rather than one obvious one.

Can you reuse my existing frames?

Often, yes, and it saves you money. If your frames are sound but the glass is broken, scratched or you simply want a different look, we can remove the old panels and install new ones in the existing frames. It is worth asking about before assuming you need a complete new enclosure. Where the frames are corroded, bent or the door has fundamentally moved, replacement is the honest answer and we will say so.

Do you offer maintenance, or just installation?

Both. Regular checkups on all parts of the enclosure — hinges, seals, sweeps, hardware and glass — catch problems before something fails unexpectedly during use. That matters with shower glass more than most fittings, because a hinge working loose or a clamp over-torqued creates stress in a tempered panel, and tempered glass does not fail gradually. Maintenance is considerably cheaper than a spontaneous breakage.

How long does a shower enclosure take from start to finish?

Usually two to three weeks overall, in two visits. The estimate and measuring visit takes under an hour and is free. Fabrication is the wait — glass must be cut, tempered, polished and notched for your specific hardware, and none of that can be done after tempering. Installation is typically a half-day. Leave the enclosure unused for roughly 24 hours while the sealant cures.

Can you install over existing tile, or does tile come first?

Tile first, always. We measure against finished surfaces, because tile thickness, curb height and the final wall plane all change the dimensions. If we measure against backer board and you tile afterward, the glass will not fit. The ideal sequence is tile complete and cured, then measure, then fabrication, then install. Tell your tile contractor to leave blocking behind the wall where hinges will land.

Does shower glass have to be tempered?

Yes, without exception. Code designates glazing in and around bathing areas a hazardous location requiring safety glass, and every panel must be permanently marked with the manufacturer's identification. Beyond code it is what makes the enclosure safe — tempered glass breaks into blunt granules rather than shards. Anyone offering untempered shower glass is offering something illegal and dangerous.

How do I keep it from getting covered in water spots?

North Texas water is hard, so this is a real concern rather than a sales pitch. Three things help: a factory-applied protective coating at fabrication, far more durable than anything applied later; a squeegee kept in the shower and used after each use, which does more than any product; and choosing frosted or obscure glass if you know you will not squeegee. Untreated clear glass in Irving water shows deposits within months.

How much does a glass shower door cost in Irving?

It depends on the enclosure type, glass thickness, hardware and the size of the opening. A framed unit around an existing tub sits at the low end. A frameless walk-in in 1/2″ glass with premium hardware is considerably more. We take pride in keeping prices affordable, and we give free estimates on all our services so you know exactly what you will be paying before any work is started.
