Even Low-E Glass Needs Help on a West Elevation
Frisco homes are new, and most were built with low-E glazing already doing part of the solar control job. That leads some homeowners to assume screens have nothing left to offer. In practice that is only half right. On a shaded or north-facing window, screens add little and we will tell you so rather than quote them. On a west-facing elevation taking low direct afternoon sun through a Texas summer, they still make a clear difference — because low-E reduces solar heat gain, it does not eliminate it.
The reason screens still work over good glass is position. A solar screen sits outside the window and stops radiation before it reaches the glass at all. Low-E coatings, blinds and interior film are all working on energy that has already arrived. Stacking an exterior screen on top of a low-E window is genuinely additive, and it is why the rooms people complain about — the west-facing living room, the upstairs bedroom that never cools — improve noticeably even in a modern house.
Two Frisco-specific notes. First, this housing stock has a lot of tall two-storey glazing and large great-room windows, which are exactly the openings that overheat a room and exactly where screens pay back fastest. Second, many Frisco neighborhoods have active HOAs with architectural guidelines covering exterior changes. Screen color and frame finish are usually the relevant details, and it is worth checking before ordering — we can supply to whatever your association specifies.

Where Solar Screens Earn Their Keep in Frisco
Which windows are worth screening on a modern low-E house — and which are not.
| Window or Elevation | Whether It's Worth Screening |
|---|---|
| West-facing windows | The highest priority in Frisco. Low direct afternoon sun through the hottest hours, which low-E glass reduces but does not eliminate. |
| South-facing windows | Sustained exposure across the full day. The second priority after west, and usually worth doing. |
| East-facing windows | Morning sun only and less intense. Worth screening if the room is used in the morning; easy to leave if you like a bright breakfast room. |
| North-facing windows | Minimal direct sun. Usually not worth screening — we will say so rather than quote them. |
| Tall two-storey & entry glazing | Large area, often unshaded, and frequently the source of an overheating entry or stairwell. High payback. |
| Great-room and picture windows | The biggest single openings in most Frisco homes, and usually the room the family actually complains about. |
| Upstairs bedrooms | Heat rises and upper floors run warmer. Screening west-facing bedroom windows often fixes a room nobody could cool. |
| Patio doors | Large glazed area facing the yard. Worth screening where the orientation puts them in afternoon sun. |
How Solar Screens Get Installed
Assess, choose, measure, mount — usually a single install visit.
Free Estimate & Walkthrough
We walk your elevations and identify which windows will actually benefit — and which are not worth screening at all.
Choose Shade Level & Color
Chosen per room rather than one specification for the house, and matched to any HOA architectural guidelines that apply.
Measure Every Opening
Each window measured individually. Screens are custom-fabricated, and a stock size leaves light gaps at the perimeter that defeat the purpose.
Fabrication & Installation
Screens built to your dimensions and mounted to the exterior. Most Frisco homes are completed in a single visit, and our work is warrantied.
Solar Screen & Exterior Work
Residential solar screen installations across the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

One Room You Can Never Cool?
It is almost always west-facing glass. Screens stop the heat outside the window, which is the only place stopping it actually works.
What DFW Property Owners Say
Verified reviews from commercial and residential clients across the Metroplex.
★★★★★Called late night after my front door to my business was broken. They were out to me within 90 minutes to board the door. Had my door as good as new within a week with replacement glass. Good people that do good business. Highly recommend!

★★★★★I am a contractor, and I work with this glass shop on a regular basis because I have a lot of clients who want to install custom shower doors. They are the ones that I use for these orders, and they are always on point. I really like the way they do business.

Frisco Solar Screen Questions
What Frisco homeowners ask before screening a house.
My windows are already low-E. Will screens still help?
On the right windows, yes — and we will tell you which those are. Low-E coatings reduce solar heat gain but do not eliminate it, and they work on energy that has already reached the glass. A solar screen sits outside and stops radiation before the window sees it, so the two are genuinely additive. On a west-facing elevation taking direct afternoon sun the difference is clear. On a shaded north window it is not worth your money, and we would rather say so.
How much do solar screens actually block?
They protect windows from 65%–90% of the sun's damaging UV rays, which means 80%–90% of the heat is blocked — providing optimal temperature control for the interior of your home or business while still allowing plenty of daylight to reach the inside. That last part matters: this is not a blackout. You still get natural light and you still see out clearly during the day.
Do I need HOA approval before installing screens?
In many Frisco neighborhoods, yes — worth checking before you order rather than after. Most active associations here have architectural guidelines covering exterior changes, and for screens the relevant details are usually fabric color and frame finish. Some communities specify a particular color; others simply require an application. We can supply to whatever your association specifies, so tell us at the estimate and it becomes a non-issue.
Which windows should I screen first?
West-facing, without much doubt. They take low direct sun through the hottest part of the afternoon, which is when your air conditioning is already working hardest. South is the second priority. East gets morning sun only and is optional. North is usually not worth doing at all. If budget is a factor, screening west and south glass captures most of the benefit for well under half the cost of doing the whole house.
What about our two-storey entry window?
Often one of the best candidates in a Frisco home. Tall entry and stair glazing is large, usually unshaded, and frequently the reason an entry or upstairs landing runs hot. Because the area is big, the heat gain is big, and screening it makes a difference you notice. Installation needs proper access equipment given the height, which we have — it is the same capability we use for glazing those windows.
Will my rooms be dark?
Dimmer, not dark. The screens still allow plenty of daylight to reach the inside while blocking the heat and UV, and you see out clearly during daylight hours — the effect from inside is more like good sunglasses than a blind. Because we specify per room, if a particular room's brightness matters to you, say so and we will adjust the specification or leave that window unscreened.
Do they protect furniture and flooring?
Yes, and it is a benefit worth counting. Blocking 65%–90% of damaging UV substantially reduces what reaches your interior, and UV is what fades hardwood floors, rugs, artwork and upholstery. In newer Frisco homes with large glazed areas and open floor plans, a lot of interior is exposed to direct sun, and the damage accumulates invisibly until it is obvious and permanent.
How long do solar screens last in Texas sun?
Quality screen fabric generally holds up for many years, though direct exposure is exactly what wears them and west-facing screens always age fastest. Frames typically outlast the fabric considerably, which is why rescreening — putting new fabric into your existing frames — is the usual repair rather than buying whole new screens. We keep our prices reasonable and offer warranties on our work.
