Residential Glass in Fort Worth

Fort Worth Has the Oldest Housing Stock We Work In

Fort Worth presents glass problems that newer parts of the Metroplex simply do not. The Fairmount and Southside historic districts hold some of the largest concentrations of early-twentieth-century homes in Texas — Craftsman bungalows and Victorians with original wood sash, divided lites, and in places the slightly wavy cylinder glass that gives an old window its character. Arlington Heights, Ridglea and the TCU-area neighborhoods run from the 1920s through the 1950s. Alliance and far north Fort Worth are new construction with low-E insulated units. One replacement approach cannot serve all of that, which is why we measure in your home rather than assuming from the build year.

In the historic districts there is a decision worth making deliberately, and it is not purely a glass decision. Original wood sash can almost always be re-glazed — the old putty is raked out, new glass is bedded and the sash goes back — keeping the window's proportions, its muntin pattern and its age. Replacing the whole window with a modern insulated unit performs better thermally but changes how the house reads from the street, and in a designated historic district it may also be restricted. We will tell you what is achievable within the sash you have before you consider replacing it.

Everywhere else in Fort Worth, the most common call is fogging — that milky haze between the panes that will not clean off from either side. It means the insulated unit's perimeter seal has failed and moisture has entered the sealed airspace. It is not a cleaning problem and no spray fixes it. The glass unit needs replacing, but the window frame and sash almost always stay, which makes this a far smaller job than most homeowners expect when they first call.

Glass Types

Residential Glass Options for Fort Worth Homes

What we install, and where each one actually belongs in a Fort Worth house.

Glass TypeWhere It Belongs in a Fort Worth Home
Clear annealed float glassStandard interior windows and non-hazardous locations, and the correct glass for re-glazing original wood sash where no safety requirement applies.
Tempered safety glassCode-required in and beside doors, bathrooms near tubs and showers, at stair bottoms and large panes near the floor. Breaks into blunt granules.
Restoration & cylinder-style glassFairmount, Southside and Ryan Place homes where a modern flat pane would read wrong next to original glazing in the same window.
Insulated unit (dual pane)The standard replacement for any fogged or failed unit — two lites with a sealed argon-filled airspace between them.
Low-E coated insulated glassWest- and south-facing elevations taking direct Texas afternoon sun. Cuts solar heat gain substantially while keeping the view clear.
Laminated glassPost-breakage retention and sound reduction — worth considering near I-30, I-35W and the Meacham and Alliance flight paths.
Obscure & patterned glassBathroom windows, front-door sidelites and any opening wanting daylight without a sightline. Several patterns and opacity levels.
Custom-cut tabletop glassCut to your template in 1/4″ or 3/8″ thickness with polished, beveled or seamed edges, tempered where the application calls for it.
How It Works

How Residential Replacement Works

Four steps from your first call to glass in the opening.

Call & Describe It

Tell us what you are seeing — fogged, cracked, shattered, or an old sash losing its putty. That usually tells us whether this is a same-day secure job or a measure.

Free In-Home Measure

We measure the actual opening and identify the existing glass type and thickness. Older Fort Worth openings are rarely square, and drawing dimensions are rarely real ones.

Written Quote & Fabrication

An itemized quote, then your glass is cut or the insulated unit built to order. Tempered and insulated units are made to size, not pulled from stock.

Installation & Cleanup

Glass set and sealed, old glass and packaging hauled away, work area vacuumed. We do not leave glass fragments in a home.

What DFW Property Owners Say

Verified reviews from commercial and residential clients across the Metroplex.

★★★★★

Called late night after my front door to my business was broken. They were out to me within 90 minutes to board the door. Had my door as good as new within a week with replacement glass. Good people that do good business. Highly recommend!

★★★★★

I am a contractor, and I work with this glass shop on a regular basis because I have a lot of clients who want to install custom shower doors. They are the ones that I use for these orders, and they are always on point. I really like the way they do business.

Common Questions

Fort Worth Residential Glass Questions

What Fort Worth homeowners ask most before booking a replacement.

My window is foggy between the panes. Can it be cleaned?

No. That haze sits inside the sealed airspace between the two panes, so cleaning from either side cannot reach it. It means the insulated unit's perimeter seal has failed and moisture has entered. The unit must be replaced — but the part most homeowners are relieved to hear is that the window frame and sash almost always stay. We replace the glass unit only, which costs far less than a full window replacement and requires no exterior work or repainting.

I have an old home in Fairmount. Can you re-glaze original wood sash?

Yes, and in a historic district it is usually the right answer. Original wood sash is built to be re-glazed: the old putty is raked out, the broken pane removed, new glass bedded and the putty re-run. The window keeps its proportions, its muntin pattern and its age. We can also source restoration-style glass with the subtle waviness of the period, so a single replaced pane does not sit conspicuously flat next to the originals. Worth checking your district's guidelines before considering full replacement — in Fairmount and Southside, changes to street-facing windows can be restricted.

Should I replace my historic windows with modern insulated units?

It is a real trade-off, and we will not push you either way. Modern insulated units perform substantially better thermally. But they change how the house reads from the street, the frames rarely match original proportions, and in a designated historic district the change may be restricted or require approval. Many Fort Worth owners get most of the comfort benefit by re-glazing the sash, adding weatherstripping and fitting storm windows or solar screens — at a fraction of the cost and with the house intact. We will tell you honestly what each route gets you.

Does my replacement glass have to be tempered?

It depends where the window is. Code designates certain spots hazardous locations requiring safety glazing: glass in or within 24 inches of a door, glass in bathrooms near tubs and showers, glass at stair bottoms, and large panes close to the floor. There, replacement must be tempered or laminated and permanently marked. Elsewhere standard annealed glass is fine and costs less. We identify which applies at the measure — it matters at resale, when inspectors look for the mark in the corner of the glass.

How long does replacement take in Fort Worth?

The installation itself is usually well under an hour per opening. The waiting is fabrication, because tempered and insulated units are made to your exact measurements rather than pulled off a shelf. Standard clear glass in a common size is often a few business days. Tempered, low-E insulated, restoration glass and oversized units typically run one to two weeks. If the opening is broken we secure it the same day so you are not waiting with a hole in the house.

Do you handle hail and storm damage insurance claims?

Yes, and Fort Worth gives us plenty of practice — the western side of the Metroplex takes some of the worst of it. We photograph the damage, provide an itemized scope and quote in the format carriers expect, and can coordinate directly with your adjuster. Emergency board-up is normally covered as loss mitigation. Get it secured promptly, because delaying can raise questions about secondary damage that complicate the claim.

Is low-E glass worth the upgrade in Fort Worth?

On west- and south-facing windows, usually yes. North Texas has a long, punishing cooling season, and a low-E coating blocks a large share of solar heat gain while keeping the view clear — it does not noticeably darken or tint the glass. Since you are already paying for the labor and the unit, the incremental cost is modest and typically pays back through reduced cooling. On shaded north-facing windows the benefit is much smaller and we will say so.

What does residential glass replacement cost in Fort Worth?

It varies with size, glass type and access. A small annealed pane in a ground-floor window sits at the low end. Re-glazing multiple lites in a historic divided-light sash is labor-intensive and priced accordingly. A large low-E insulated unit in a second-storey opening is more again, because both glass and labor scale up. Because every opening differs we measure first and give you an itemized written quote covering glass, labor and disposal — free, and with no obligation.
