Measuring is the part that catches people out. A shower door has several different dimensions that all need to fit together perfectly, and tempered glass cannot be trimmed after fabrication — if a measurement is out, the panel is scrap. Then there is levelling: the frame needs shims under the corner pieces until all four corners are true, top to bottom and side to side. Measure twice and cut once is our motto because there is no second chance on the cut.

Almost always installation rather than the door. A frame fractionally out of level puts uneven pressure on the seals, so one section stops making contact. A sealant bead that skips a section lets moisture behind the frame and into the wall. Neither shows on installation day — they show up months later as mold, damaged drywall or a door that has dropped out of alignment. We use high-quality silicone between the frame and walls specifically because moisture that gets past it causes problems later.

It depends on the bathroom and on how straight the walls are. Frameless has no framing to hide an out-of-plumb wall, so if a wall leans you get a visible tapered gap along the panel edge. Framed and semi-frameless absorb that error, seal more reliably and cost less. Frameless looks cleaner and makes a room feel more open. We measure first and tell you honestly which will look right in your bathroom before you order.

Whichever suits how the bathroom actually works. Hinged doors swing, so they need clear space to open without hitting a vanity, toilet or towel rail — fine in a larger Frisco master bath, awkward in a compact secondary one. Sliding bypass doors need no swing clearance at all, which makes them the practical answer for tub surrounds and tight bathrooms. Both seal well when installed properly.

Usually two to three weeks overall, in two visits. The estimate and measuring visit takes under an hour and is free. Fabrication is the wait — glass must be cut, tempered, polished and notched for your specific hardware, and none of that can happen after tempering. Installation is typically a half-day. Leave the enclosure unused for roughly 24 hours while the sealant cures.

Tile first, always. We measure against finished surfaces, because tile thickness, curb height and the final wall plane all change the dimensions. If we measure against backer board and you tile afterward, the glass will not fit. The ideal sequence is tile complete and cured, then measure, then fabrication, then install. Tell your tile contractor to leave blocking behind the wall where hinges will land.

Yes, without exception. Code designates glazing in and around bathing areas a hazardous location requiring safety glass, and every panel must be permanently marked with the manufacturer's identification. Beyond code it is what makes the enclosure safe — tempered glass breaks into blunt granules rather than shards. Anyone offering untempered shower glass is offering something illegal and dangerous.

North Texas water is hard, so this is a real concern rather than a sales pitch. Three things help: a factory-applied protective coating at fabrication, far more durable than anything applied later; a squeegee kept in the shower and used after each use, which does more than any product; and choosing privacy or obscure glass if you know you will not squeegee. Untreated clear glass in Frisco water shows deposits within months.
