Glass shower doors that are not installed correctly leak water or slip out of position, and the failure point is usually a corner — where the frame changes direction and a continuous sealant bead is hardest to maintain. That is why we use silicone sealant together with a laser-cut gasket around each corner of every glass panel, so no moisture from inside the shower gets in between the frame and the wall.

Because sealant alone depends on how neatly a bead was applied on the day, and a corner is the hardest place to get that right. A laser-cut gasket gives a dimensionally consistent barrier that does not vary with the installer's hand, and the silicone bonds and seals around it. Together they are considerably more reliable than silicone by itself — which matters, because water getting behind a frame is what produces mildew and damaged drywall months later.

Yes, without exception, and there are two reasons. Code designates glazing in and around bathing areas a hazardous location requiring safety glass, permanently marked with the manufacturer's identification. Practically, high-quality tempered glass also stands up to the temperature extremes of a shower without breaking, which ordinary annealed glass does not handle nearly as well. Anyone offering untempered shower glass is offering something illegal and unsafe.

Because there are many dimensions that all have to fit together properly, and tempered glass cannot be cut, trimmed or adjusted after fabrication. If a measurement is out by a fraction, the panel is scrap and you start the lead time again. Using the right tools and methods to get measurements right the first time saves you both time and money — and it is the main reason this is not a DIY project regardless of how simple it looks.

It depends on the bathroom. Unframed gives an open, airy feel and the cleanest look, but has nowhere to hide an out-of-plumb wall. Framed matches your decor, seals reliably and absorbs wall movement — often better in older McKinney bathrooms that have settled. Hinged doors need clear swing space; sliding doors need none, which makes them right for tub surrounds and compact rooms. We will advise at the measure.

Usually two to three weeks overall, in two visits. The estimate and measuring visit takes under an hour and is free. Fabrication is the wait — glass must be cut, tempered, polished and notched for your specific hardware, and none of that can happen after tempering. Installation is typically a half-day. Leave the enclosure unused for roughly 24 hours while the sealant cures.

Tile first, always. We measure against finished surfaces, because tile thickness, curb height and the final wall plane all change the dimensions. If we measure against backer board and you tile afterward, the glass will not fit. The ideal sequence is tile complete and cured, then measure, then fabrication, then install. Tell your tile contractor to leave blocking behind the wall where hinges will land.

North Texas water is hard, so this is a real concern rather than a sales pitch. Three things help: a factory-applied protective coating at fabrication, far more durable than anything applied later; a squeegee kept in the shower and used after each use, which does more than any product; and choosing frosted or obscure glass if you know you will not squeegee. Untreated clear glass here shows deposits within months.
